When Are Our Next Free Classes?

In my previous post, I explained why I only occasionally offer the first class free for new students.  In short, it’s because classes can be quite variable from week to week, and just one class isn’t necessarily a good indication of what is “typical” over the course of a few weeks or months. The most reliable time to try a representative class is during the first week of a session, and that’s when it makes sense for me to offer a free class for new students. Our next session begins during the week of October 26 – 31 and if you are new to Harmony Yoga and...

Why I No Longer Offer First Class Free

Why I No Longer Offer First Class Free

Some studios have the policy of offering the first class for free.   That hasn’t worked out well for me for various reasons, although I do offer discounted classes to new students (see our New Student Specials for more information.) Why don’t I offer the first class for free anymore? Partly it’s because I have found that people who expect the first class for free don’t value what they are getting.  Why would they?  A free class has no value or importance to most people beyond the one-time “work-out” or “stretching session”.     But people who...

This is a good...

International Day of Yoga – June 21

On December 11, 2014 the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 to be International Day of Yoga, about three months after India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea. The General Assembly recognized that Yoga “provides a holistic approach to health and well-being”, and the more information that is disseminated about this practice, the more beneficial it can be for the populations of the world. Narendra Modi addressed the assembly, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and...

The Harmony Yoga Blog has Moved!

With the redesign of the Harmony Yoga of Ann Arbor website, we’re also moving the blog over to the new WordPress platform.  It is renamed “Harmony Yoga News” and you’ll find it under “News” in the menu. You can still go back and read old posts from the Blogger site.  I may repurpose that site for more general yoga information and recommendations.
